Stop Saying Slop

Posted by brilokuloj on May 11, 2026

I am here to beg you to stop calling things that you don’t like “slop”.

I am not here to drop a scoopful of OCD bait in your lap and leave. I am not walking around my friends with a tally every time they say the Naughty Word, because I don’t think anyone should be policing people’s language usage. If you have been sent this article by a hopefully well-meaning friend, I want you to know that reading this article is not an attempt to lecture you – and if they’ve sent you this just to be an asshole, tell them to go fuck off. But I have no idea how else to communicate that we need to drop the word “slop” from our vocabulary now and not later.

The term “slop”, in its current usage to refer to low-quality entertainment, is antisemitic. I don’t mean abstractly, obscurely, or based on tropes from decades ago that have become so mutated as to be unrecognizable. I mean that the formula of “[adjective] slop” started as “goyslop”.

Goyslop, coined on 4chan in 2016, is the idea that Jews control the American fast food industry and feed us garbage to make us weak. Its definition on Urban Dictionary reads as such: “The absolute barebones nutrition required by goyim to stay alive and continue working/wagecucking.” A synonym for goyslop is zogchow, where “zog” stands for Zionist Occupation Government. Are you getting the picture here?

Since I had to bring up the Z word, I do have to take a minute to clarify that this article is not pro-Israel and I will be making no defense of Zionism. The antisemitism discussed is matters of white supremacy within America. You still with me?

Let’s take a look at one of the earliest recorded usages of goyslop in 2019:

Ran out of food at 12 and will now spend the remaining 6 hours eating goyslop from the vending machines. Saints preserve me.

This is from @HuskWater on Twitter, a “charming” fellow. Do you really need me to tell you this was posted by an antisemite? Well, don’t just take it from me, here’s another tweet from him:

Do not need a racist gf since I can convert her to racism over time later

All of this might sound familiar. In 2017 we saw the rise of “soy boys” to refer to the myth that soy was feminizing. This term also started on 4chan, and it also revolved around the idea that the government was feeding us mind-controlling substances in order to placate us and make us liberal. The anti-soy movement developed into what is now the alt right’s fixation on raw milk – it’s pure, white, and manlier than soy milk, the choice of weak vegan liberals. It’s all very juvenile, and the evocation of easy-to-understand illustrations is deliberate.

Whenever I try to communicate any of this to people, I can tell there reaches a point where their brains just turn off, because all of this is nonsense. Which it is! But that isn’t a good enough reason to keep using the language that they are generating.

Memes are one of the primary ways that the alt-right acquires relevance and recognition in the public consciousness. The ideas, when presented at face-value, are overwhelming and easily dismissable. When watered down and given to us one bit at a time, they become easier to swallow. It’s one of the longest “it’s just a joke, bro” bits of all time. And this isn’t even like Pepe the Frog, which acquired hateful meaning later – the prejudice was baked into this one from the start.

When’s the last time you thought about a “soyjak”? It’s got “soy” right in the name, you can’t be surprised here. The legendary “soyjak pointing” meme is drawn off of an image of two men excited to see Beyond Meat at KFC. The joke, in itself, the entire joke, is that these are men who are weak pussies because of the Jews.

Notice how when otherwise normal people spread these images, they can rarely define what the joke is, other than that it’s just a guy that was drawn in a way that looks funny. Sometimes the images get passed around specifically because they’re indecipherable. This is intentional design.

Any analysis of “slop” as a term falls apart rapidly under any amount of prodding. The core idea is understandable enough, and I get why it got popular: mass amounts of entertainment media is being created because we’re too stupid to know any better. But who is they? Who’s making the content?

When you use the word “slop”, you are aligning yourself with people who have defined The Enemy to be The Jews. You really have to look at the word itself. By calling it slop, it brings to mind pig food – and that’s the defense I see of it frequently, that pig food is evocative enough on its own that it doesn’t have to be antisemitic, if the person wills it hard enough. (Again, the narrative is that White Americans are being compared to an animal that are deemed as dirty by Jewish dietary law. Come on.)

Historical usage

Whenever I try to find any discussion of this online, I inevitably run into pushback of people claiming that the word has “always” been used in this way. This kind of revisionism drives me up the wall, but it’s so hard to push against when somebody has already made up their mind about how they remember things being, so I took it upon myself to make a proper rebuttal.

I took a sample of 500 consecutive posts featuring the word “slop” from 2012-2016, 2020-2021, and 2026 off of the popular online forum Something Awful. From there, I sorted the usage of the word into categories. I am not a trained data scientist so the methodology here is assuredly flawed: selecting 500 consecutive posts instead of all posts within a year means I am capturing variable stretches of time, as well as a lot of conversations where the word will be used repeatedly in a row. Regardless, this is what I had and I did what I could with it.

Some may question my choice to use Something Awful for these metrics. You’re not wrong, but I will defend myself by pointing out that it is a very popular and active online forum that happens to experience very little astroturfing compared to Reddit. The forum’s $10 entrance fee guarantees accounts made by human beings, and the site’s reputation limits it to people who are posting with intent to be there.

One thing that can be said for certain is that the usage of the word has increased in frequency, as seen by that Selection 2012-2016 spans four years, whereas Selection 2026 only spans one month. I’m certain these numbers do not merely reflect a higher rate of posting, but you’re just going to have to take my word on that.

A chart tracking the usage of the word slop. It starts off primarily as an engineering term, then for low-quality food, then for entertainment.

Don’t laugh about how much my chart sucks. Okay, just don’t do it in front of me.

I learned a lot of random stuff from this undertaking. The giant basin in the basement that I grew up in was a “slop sink”. There were a lot of references to the Slip-Slop-Slap skin cancer PSA. The miniatures game Malifaux has a gremlin “slop hauler”.

Another thing I didn’t expect to learn is that it appears the podcast Chapo Trap House did a large part in pushing “slop” as a term for low-quality entertainment. Chapo is a shock jock podcast, but they’re also socialist. I haven’t listened to them and have no plans to, so I can’t imagine how this came about. One of the hosts is Jewish, so it could be ironic? But that also goes to show that ironic usage can further the reach of a word, doesn’t it? But again, I don’t know.

If all of this is still a little too homegrown for you, you’re welcome to look at the Google trends for slop.

Speaking of Google, while doing research for this article, I’ve broken my algorithm a bit and it keeps offering me things like “People also ask: What superheroes were created by Jews?” – I had no idea where to work this into the greater story here but it does feel like it bears mentioning that it really does not take very long to get pipelined. What the hell, man.

Spread and variations

The worst part of the term “goyslop” has been the speed at which it generates knockoff terms which further the ideology, most often by repeating the very same ideas without saying the “Jew” part out loud.

The most common and palatable form of goyslop today is the phrase “AI slop”, referring to mass-produced AI content. This accounts for almost all uses of the word “slop” nowadays. I haven’t been able to trace any singular reason why AI specifically got this treatment, but my best guess is that it’s another variation on the “Mark Zuckerberg is a lizard person” conspiracy. This may have been purely accidental, but they’ve brought it right back around to that anyway nowadays.

Look, I’m not defending the flooding of the Internet with mass-produced garbage. I’m not even saying Mark Zuckerberg isn’t evil. We just don’t have to hand it to 4chan on this one. We can have our own opinions and we can say our own things. I am getting down on my knees and begging you to think for yourself here.

The term “AI slop” has gotten worryingly popular in a very short amount of time. In December 2025 both Merriam-Webster and the American Dialect Society picked “slop” as the 2025 Word of the Year. This is really, really rough for a term with racist motivations.

Here’s some more. The term “blobslop” materialized in 2024 to refer to simplistic, template-based comics with “blobby” humanoid characters that are easy to draw over and remix. Which is hilarious, because that’s also literally what wojaks are, but “blobslop” is drawn by Twitter and doesn’t deliberately bring supremacist ideology into the picture like some sort of demented Trojan horse, so it’s slop I guess!

“Parryslop” seems to have been coined in a Bluesky post posted in 2025 by Celia Wagar and refers to games that… use a parry mechanic. I will concede this is one of the most innocent usages of slop and its specificity does make me laugh, but again, this is another instance where the word “slop” didn’t need to be invoked at all.

Another variation born in 2025 was “retroslop”, which refers to faux-retro outfits made in the game Roblox that are lacking in actual relation to the history of the game – a bit like Frutiger Aero and modern scene revival, I guess. I’m way outside of the target group for this one so I’m not going to speculate too much on it, but this is an example of how “slop” has slipped into the vocabulary of children who are way too detached to understand that they are invoking antisemitism. It also concerns the topic of correct and incorrect traditionalism, which is worrying.

But the worst offender of all, in my opinion, is “friendslop”: cooperative games that let you play with your friends, often over voice chat while working as a team. I cannot imagine a bigger example of the antisocial backbone of this ideology. Throughout and after 2020, we saw a mysterious rise in video games that make it easier to hang out with your friends remotely. Clearly this must be the work of The Jews, who want us to… uh… talk to our friends and have fun. Good lord!

Alternatives?

I don’t feel good asking people to stop doing something without offering at least a bit of redirection. Nobody likes being told what to do.

Before the rise of slop we had the term “content sludge”, which is still in use today. I imagine slop could easily be replaced with sludge and it would at least drop the pig motif. Or we could just start calling things “crap” or “shit” again! I thought “capeshit” was working just fine.

And look, I get it – if you even got this far, there’s a chance you’re uncomfortable and angry with me. Pointing out bad language choice seems to come with an implication that I think it’s deliberate. Well, I don’t. I think you are being taken advantage of, and I want you to think for yourself. If you really can’t imagine life without this word, I think that’s kind of ridiculous, but I understand we’re all fighting our own unimaginable personal battles right now.

With that said, I would like to stop seeing this word from people that I know fully well would not be using it if they understood where it came from. So pass this around in your friend groups if you think they’d be open to it. (Just be nice and don’t do anything that’s gonna get me yelled at)
